Academy of Business
Tuesday, 24 May 2011 10:11This Academy is aimed at students who wish to pursue a career in business or finance and is affiliated to the prestigious Career Academies UK organisation www.careeracademies.org.uk. Eligibility for the Academy is restricted to students who have chosen to pursue one of these two core subjects: BTEC in Business or A level Business Studies. Students will contribute to and benefit from the following: • A six week internship. This takes place between years 1 and 2 of the course and will be with an accredited local, national or international business. • A partner in business. Each student will build a relationship with a personal mentor someone from a local business with whom they will meet on a regular basis to discuss academic progress, their career and coursework related issues. • Local and National events organised by Career Academies UK – opportunities to meet and network with likeminded students and business professionals. • The opportunity to pursue additional academic subjects. • Lectures in class from Business Professionals covering specific subject areas and general life skills. • Site visits to local employers. Students will be able to find out additional features of the Academy programme and to register their interest for the Academy during taster days. They will then be able to discuss their individual programme at their Academy interview.
Business Studies
Monday, 23 May 2011 13:56Introduction
Business Studies will suit students who want to be able to address the fundamental questions that decision-makers in the commercial world face every day, such as:
(i) How do we set an appropriate price for our product?
(ii) How can we improve the quality of the service we offer?
(iii) How can we motivate our employees in order to reduce labour turnover?
(iv) How might a strong £ affect our competitiveness?
Students will need an interest in a case-based approach that emphasises problem-solving skills. The businesses examined range from oneperson enterprises through to large multinational corporations. All face similar problems, though, and must make decisions based on Marketing, People, Production and Finance.
Further Details
