
Certificate in Sport (Level 3)

This BTEC Level 3 Certificate course allows you to study a work-related programme. Students will cover 4 units which includes 3 compulsory core units. Students will be given the opportunity to take some additional awards such as First Aid, Community and Higher Sports Leader Awards as well as develop their individual sports through specialised coaching, either on/or off the site and have additional time allocated to practising.
Further Details
Areas covered are: Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport, The Physiology of Fitness, Assessing Risk in Sport and Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise. The course is taught both in the classroom and through practical sessions. Students should be very aware that this is a mostly theory-based course and should remember that as there are no exams at the end of this course, the coursework demands can be quite intense at times.
Progession Options
The Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma In Sport (Equivalent to 1 A Level) Employment within the sports industry, supporting applications to university to study a range of sporting degrees and further study in PE teaching, Sports Management and Recreation & Leisure.
Extended Diploma in Business (Level 3)

Extended Diploma in Performing Arts (Level 3)

Are you looking for a possible career in the Creative Arts – this could be the course for you as you will learn more about acting, directing and all related performing arts. This exciting course is taught in a full working theatre and students will have access to fully equipped theatre spaces and rehearsal rooms as well as working on site specific and touring productions. Through a unique collaboration with the George Eliot Fellowship Students will have the opportunity to work on an originally commissioned play as part of the International Literary Festival. Assessed through a number of core units students will learn more about the Performing Arts business and learn more about how to achieve in the industry. The Creative Arts is one of the most vibrant success stories of the UK economy in recent years and is one of the few areas which offer increasing employment opportunities. Additional optional units comprise the remainder of the course and allow the students some flexibility in their chosen study path. All teaching staff in the Performing Arts department have worked in the industry and provide a realistic learning experience In addition you will be learn through Professional Practice, Master Classes and visiting industry professionals and theatre trips.

As part of a vocational course we like to provide a learning environment as close as possible to industry standards, students will therefore be expected to put in work hours outside the normal college day.
Progression Options
Learners could go on to study at Higher Education at University or Drama School as well as gaining some important life skills that are important skills for employment both in and out of the Performing Arts Sector.
Higher National Certificate in Media & Moving Image (Level 4)

This highly practical course is aimed at those interested in film and video making. The course encourages experimentation and creative development. It includes all aspects of digital video film making as well as an emphasis on the use of sound and editing using Premiere Pro. The course provides a foundation in aspects of the moving image and sound, to allow students to understand current developments and deal with changes in technology. It will also give students the opportunity to develop commercial links and build solid industry standard skills to increase their prospects in the local business market. It will enable learners to develop a portfolio of work that can be shown to potential employers or higher educational establishments. Students will be given the freedom to develop creatively, within the criteria of the unit briefs, and produce projects that may relate to their own personal interests and experiences. All the HNC students have the opportunity to liaise and work with commercial companies and businesses to help establish early industry links.

BTEC First Diploma in Sport (Level 2)

It is a very practically based subject, which is entirely assessed through assignments rather than examinations. Students preferring a more examination approach to assessment should consider separate Science A levels as an alternative.
Progression Options
Students follow nine units in the first year to gain the 90 credit Diploma. Nine further units are followed in the second year to gain the Extended Diploma (Equivalent to three A levels). This would provide a good foundation for progression directly into a Science related industry or to higher education to follow a wide range of Science related courses. These include Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering and Pharmacology. Students aspiring to do Medicine or Dentistry should follow the A level route.
