Introduction
This is a beginner’s course in Latin. No previous knowledge of the subject is required or assumed. The course follows the long-established Cambridge Latin Course which is very well resourced with books, self-study materials and electronic resources. Students study both the language and Roman civilisation. The level 2 qualification is equivalent to a higher tier paper at GCSE and is graded from A*-C. It is expected that the course will be re-branded as a GCSE course shortly. This is a course which students can opt to take in addition to their normal programme. Lessons take place twice weekly at lunchtimes and although supervised, students will largely be working through self-study materials at their own pace.
Further Details
This subject is particularly useful for students wishing to study History, Ancient History, Classics or Archaeology at university. It will also be of interest to students studying modern languages.
Progression Options
We have no plans to introduce AS/A level courses in this subject, but students studying Ancient History and/or Classics at university should be able to continue their study at an appropriate level.
