Introduction
This course provides a strong foundation for understanding of the physical processes in the world and the impacts of humans on the earth. The course will be of interest to those who want to learn more about our planet through a range of current issues including globalization, environmental issues, hazards and sustainability. Human and physical geography are studied with two compulsory subjects – such as flood management and population change – along with coastal systems, development and food issues.
In the second year topics include tectonics, climate change, world cities and the development of societies. The course also enables students to develop a range of practical and analytical skills through fieldwork, data analysis and problem-solving. In addition to studying current aspects of global change, students will build their knowledge through practical investigations and research. The course includes a range of fieldwork opportunities – some of these are local and others residential.

Geography works well with all other subjects. You may select other subjects to team with it on the basis of any career aspirations you may have. Our current students study Geography with both Science and Art subjects, as well as with Business and Social Sciences.
Many universities will regard A Level Geography as a second subject for certain degree courses.
Progression Options
Geographers are said to be amongst the most employable people, since they have developed a wide range of transferable skills that are appropriate to many career paths. Students who have studied with us have progressed into a wide range of employment and undergraduate courses. Many go on to study Geography at University and eventually follow career paths into a range of areas such as planning, landscape management, conservation, business and teaching. Others select related subjects to follow at University, including Geological Science and Oceanography, as well as Quantity Surveying and Land Management.
